Response of Common Wildflower Species to Postemergence Herbicides

چکیده

Wildflowers attract wildlife, increase pollinator habitat, and enhance the aesthetic value of landscape. Wildflower establishment is increasingly part an effort to reduce maintained turfgrass on golf courses, lawns, other environments. Weed competition decreases wildflower results in poor long-term stands. Research was conducted a controlled environment investigate tolerance species common postemergence herbicides. included California poppy ( Eschscholzia californica Cham.), sunflower Helianthus annuus L.), cornflower Centaurea cyanus garden coreopsis Coreopsis lanceolata partridge pea [ Chamaecrista fasciculata (Michx.) Greene], plains tinctoria Nutt.), purple coneflower Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench], rosering gaillardia Gaillardia pulchella Foug.), violet prairie clover Dalea Vent.). Herbicides evaluated were fluazifop at 0.28 kg⋅ha –1 a.i., mesotrione 0.14 clopyralid 0.29 bentazon 0.56 halosulfuron 0.053 imazaquin 0.42 a.i. An untreated check for comparison. Excessive damage (≥ 53% phytotoxicity) observed all response clopyralid, except poppy. Fluazifop relatively safe (≤ 19% phytotoxicity, regardless herbicide) species; however, resulted ≥ 40% aboveground biomass reduction several species. Common susceptible (37% 73% respectively) 87% respectively), but species, phytotoxicity ≤ 18%. Although both only 18% coneflower, 43% 44% recorded. Mesotrione 11% 24% reduction). Results suggest high variability across herbicides considered, may prompt new investigation safety utility within field production scenarios.

Efficacy of Preemergence and Postemergence Herbicides for Controlling Common Purslane

Common purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) can be problematic in thin turf, along sidewalks and drives, and especially during turfgrass establishment. Little published research exists evaluating herbicides that will control purslane and are also labeled for turfgrass. Thus, our objective was to evaluate the efficacy of preemergence (PRE) or postemergence (POST) herbicides labeled for use in turf f...

Soybean response to plant growth regulator herbicides is affected by other postemergence herbicides

Dean E. Riechers Corresponding author. Department of Crop Sciences, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL 61801; [email protected] Two studies investigated off-target exposure of soybean to plant growth regulator (PGR) herbicides and determined if simultaneous exposure to PGR herbicides and labeled soybean herbicides increase PGR injury. The PGR herbicides, 2,4-D, clopyralid, and dicamba, as well ...

Sensitivity of Triploid Hybrid Bermudagrass Cultivars and Common Bermudagrass to Postemergence Herbicides

The potential weediness of hybrid bermudagrass cultivars in nontarget areas is an important factor when considering the development of herbicide-resistant cultivars. Field studies evaluated the response of common bermudagrass, hexaploid hybrid ‘Tifton-10’, and two triploid hybrid bermudagrass cultivars (‘TifEagle’ and ‘TifSport’) to clethodim, fluazifop-p, glufosinate, glyphosate, and quizalofo...

Response of Poaceous Weeds in Wheat to Post-Emergence Herbicides

Poaceous weeds are prolific and competitive in winter crops, but they are more insidious in wheat due to their similar morphology and growing requirements. Herbicides are effective and efficient tools of weed management, however, they are vulnerable to resistance, and herbicides with different modes of action might check the dominance of a particular weed flora. The current study was undertaken...
